Memorial Day Weekend at the Cheat

For many years a group of CWA boaters has headed to the Yough & Cheat rivers over Memorial Day weekend. I have the pavilion reserved at Pine Hill for the weekend which is close to the Upper & Top Yough, the Cheat Canyon & Narrows, three sections of the Big Sandy and it's not too far from the Lower Yough. There are lots of other runs within an hour or so from camp. Note that the Upper Yough (Class 4+) has scheduled releases on Friday and Saturday but due to dam maintenance it is still water level dependent. I have not reserved any Lower Yough (Class 3) permits.

There is no formal instruction on this trip, it's a big social outing where different folks go to various rivers that are running. Generally two groups form each day, one for a harder run and one for a more moderate river. Camping fees are $15 per night, please bring cash for that. Meals are on your own. There is a grill and we sometimes go out to dinner on the way back from the river.
